At the end of each section, you will complete a self-evaluation (10 pts) of your work and learning. Brandon will also assess your work using a similar rubric. If there is a significant difference between your self-score and Brandon’s score, you will meet together to discuss the discrepancy and agree on a fair grade for that section.​

Each unit will include at least one multiple-choice assessment (10 pts). These assessments must be completed without screens, notes, or outside resources. You may retake them as many times as needed to demonstrate mastery.

Throughout the course, we will regularly build models that require you to apply what you’ve learned to larger, real-world questions. As a class, we will develop a shared checklist of ideas to evaluate our models (20 pts).

Each class period will begin with a brief analysis of a piece of media (1 pts) related to course topics. If you arrive late without an excused reason, this activity cannot be made up.

Each quarter will end with a final exam (20 pts) that challenges you to apply your learning to questions or problems scientists are still working to understand. You will also create a reflective artifact (5 pts) describing how our time together has influenced the way you see yourself and the natural world.​
